Growing up on the West Side of Chicago, Emani developed an early understanding of the vital role that schools, families, and communities play in shaping young people’s lives. Inspired by her grandmother, who volunteered daily at the neighborhood school their family attended for more than 40 years, she witnessed firsthand the power of meaningful family engagement in education.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Philosophy from Illinois Wesleyan University before beginning her career in direct service, supporting high school students and strengthening her commitment to educational equity.

In January 2021, Emani joined Kids First Chicago as a Community Engagement Coordinator, partnering with parents and community leaders to elevate community voices in education policy and decision-making. Since then, she has held several roles across the organization and now serves as a Policy Manager, leading the Fair Governance Task Force and the High-Quality Teaching Task Force. In this role, she collaborates with parents to advance policies that strengthen school governance and improve teaching quality across Chicago.

Outside of her professional work, Emani is a proud mother of two boys, a beauty enthusiast who enjoys hair, makeup, and nails, and an avid gardener. She is passionate about creating spaces where students, families, and communities can grow and thrive.
