The Living Room - CPS’s Black Student Success Plan
In February 2025, Chicago Public Schools launched its inaugural Black Student Success Plan, a district-wide strategy focused on equity. This plan is rooted in the CPS Equity Framework and aligns with the district’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, called Success 2029. The goal is to create the systemic conditions necessary for Black students to thrive and succeed, in alignment with the mission and vision of Chicago Public Schools. In addition, the work of the Black Student Success Plan is codified in state law through Illinois statute 105 ILCS 5/34-18.85, the same statute that established the newly elected school board.
The Black Student Success Plan (BSSP) sets a clear path forward for the next five years, with a focus on immediate action and long-term sustainability for driving student success. The plan is built on and will be driven by the powerful voices and collaboration of the community. Eugene Robinson, the Director of the BSSP and his colleague Damaris Alvarado will present the plan to our parent network. We want you to think about where you see yourself in the plan and come prepared with questions. What role do you see yourself in supporting the implementation of the plan? Join us for an interactive session!
Objectives:
- Participants will gain a clear understanding of the plan and the progress made since the launch of the Black Student Success Plan.
- Participants will recognize how their roles, lived experiences, and spheres of influence align with and contribute to the goals, strategies, and Call to Action of the Black Student Success Plan.
