Awareness, Breathe, Choice: Practical SEL Tools for Families

As summer begins and families spend more time together at home, many parents face increased stress, emotional overwhelm, and challenges with communication and behavior. This Living Room session will introduce simple, practical social emotional learning (SEL) tools families can use to help children regulate emotions and make healthier choices. Parents and caregivers will leave with strategies they can immediately use to support calmer homes, stronger communication, and greater self-leadership for both themselves and their children.

The conversation will be lead by Chanita Jones from Lightbearers’ Institute. Lightbearers' Institute equips parents and caregivers with tools, strategies, and support to prepare youth ages 12–21 for the transition into adulthood through the development of self-leadership skills. Founded by special educator and transition specialist Chanita Jones, M.Ed., NBCT, Lightbearers' Institute is committed to helping young people master their minds, time, and talents so they can move further, faster toward their highest potential.

Metrics of success:

● Parents and caregivers have practical strategies to support emotional regulation and intentional decision-making at home

● Parents and caregivers have tools they can immediately apply during everyday family situations

● Parents and caregivers feel more confident supporting communication, self-awareness, and self-management within the family
