DEAR FRIENDS,

Fifteen years ago, a group of visionary leaders banded together to radically transform Chicago’s public education system. At the time, only 50% of our public school students graduated from high school, and few left prepared for college and careers.

On Thursday, October 10, 2019, the Kids First Chicago Board of Directors is excited to bring together Chicago’s civic community in celebration of fifteen years of education transformation.

Kids First Chicago, as the Renaissance Schools Fund and New Schools for Chicago, opened 81 new, innovate schools across the district between 2004 and 2014 — spurring an era dramatic improvement for Chicago’s public schools. Since our re-launch in 2015, we have

  • Spearheaded the release of a new high school universal enrollment platform,

  • Produced a comprehensive fact base on all students in public schools in Chicago to contribute to data-driven decision-making,

  • Empowered more than 15,000 students and their families, including 900 parent champions, to advocate for improved access, quality, and transparency in Chicago public education.

Today, Chicago’s graduation rate is climbing toward 80%.

Yet, there is much more to be done. We need visionaries like you to once again take bold action, ensuring that every kid in every neighborhood has access to a world-class education.

We hope that you will join us on October 10 to celebrate improved outcomes for kids across our city and to look ahead to the future of Chicago’s public schools.

We know that, with your support, we can create a world-class PK-12 education system where every Chicago child graduates with the skills to shape our city and the world for the better.

On behalf of Kids first chicago board of directors and anniversary planning committee,
PATRICK J. Canning
